 Why Postpartum Care?

Untitled design(3).png

In traditional cultures around the world the first forty days after birth are considered vital in determining the health of a mother, not only immediately after birth, but for the rest of her life. Mothers bodies need rest & time to heal and newborns need presence & constant connection.

Traditionally in village living, mothers and families had their needs taken care of by family as well as the community throughout the postpartum window so that they could rest, heal, bond and integrate. In our current culture, mothers are often alone for part of or most of this window, and are expected to return to “life as usual” with no time to truly rest and heal. These unrealistic expectations lead to depletion, nervous system dysregulation, depression and long term pelvic floor issues, which in turn affect the health and wellbeing of our children.

As a Postpartum Care Provider I am trained in a holistic approach to postpartum physiology and psychology. I offer essential care and education to support the necessary requirements for healthy and thriving Mothers and families.

As both an apprenticing Midwife and an INNATE Traditions Certified Postpartum Care Provider I take the unique approach of truly tending to the body, mind, and spirit of women throughout pregnancy, birth, and into the postpartum — bridging the clinical with the intuitive.

I acknowledge a woman's innate ability to birth and care for their babies by helping each woman awaken her own deep knowledge... the wisdom that resides in her womb and her own cellular memory.

Through my experience attending births and sitting with women, I have come to realize that most women truly desire to be witnessed rather than managed in their journey into motherhood, and thus my role is to hold space for the mother to lead the way.

I offer a family-centered, evidence based perspective on birth and postpartum that is rooted in traditional wisdom. I help women and families move into motherhood with ease and grace, acknowledging each birth as sacred, and working with women to create supportive, supplementary care plans that truly empower every facet of this beautiful, wild and powerful process.

The natural rhythm of the earth and of life is that there is a period of growth and a period of rest. This is how balance is created. Pregnancy represents a time of growth, and therefore the postpartum period represents a time of rest. In the modern world, there is no value given for rest — modern culture is focused on constant growth and therefore the postpartum period represents the time of rest.

Supporting Mothers and families helps our communities to thrive!

Preparing for your Birth and postpartum is about intention.

It’s about deep trust and intuition. It’s about fully believing with every cell of your being that women innately know how to give birth and care for their babies. It's about being flexible and flowing with what is, and not what was expected.

It’s about trusting ourselves above all else. It’s where rational mind meets deep intuition- a place where we can take the advice and support that’s helpful and leave the rest. It’s about transformation and crossing the threshold into motherhood.

As mothers we are remembering our wild woman, our ancestors, and all the women who birthed and raised babies before us.

Mothers deserve to be supported and cared for — during labor & birth and especially throughout the postpartum journey.
